O'Reilly

Here's a video response to Bill O'Reilly & co calling Amsterdam a cesspool among other things...

This is the view from my office window in the middle of this cesspool :) If you look closely there's drug related fornication going on just behind that ficus! We (the Dutch) are anxiously waiting to be invaded and liberated from this out of control pit of damnation we call our country! Could someone please smart bomb us into oblivion?

Sweden with the clan 2009

Spent the weekend with the family (just my parents, sisters and their offspring) in our house in Sweden. Hadn't seen my sister (Mervi) for quite some time, great getting back in touch!

Just bought myself a book :) I wonder, would I fit the target demographic?

Here's a pic of the Headphones that the HTC Magic comes with... they are not very good.

Can you believe they put one of those old-school-resistor-volume-control-wheels on the damn thing?!

HTC Magic (= myTouch) vs iPhone

Ok, so here's the deal. I had an iPhone (1st gen), loved it! Took it to Russia on a skydiving trip and lost it. I really like Open Source and I don't like being a mindless fanboy so I bought myself an Android phone. The HTC Magic to be exact. The Hero hadn't been announced yet (that happened 1 day after I ordered my Magic!) and the G1 is hideous. Oh and Sammy was taking too long...

As the Magic is Vodafone sim-locked in the Netherlands but not so in the UK, I got mine on e-Bay... No problems there, it arrived with no fuss or hassle. I've been using it for a couple of weeks now and... here's how it stacks up against the iPhone.

IT SUCKS!! ... really, really hard. And that's against the 1st gen iPhone! I guess you've gotta experience the difference to appreciate it, but take it from me, it sucks :)

Ok, so the things that I actually DO like about the phone are these:
- OPEN SOURCE!
- Decent size and shape.
- It's got buttons! It's nice to have a few more than just 1.
- The trackball is a nice feature but you can't set the scroll speed which makes it a bit less so, but still.
- OPEN SOURCE!

Where it loses out on the iPhone:
- Experience: everything takes that little bit longer, it's just not as fast and smooth, it allows multi-tasking but who cares if it then crawls to a halt. The first app you need on this phone is 'Advanced Task Manager' to regularly kill all background crap. Listening to music AND browsing is painfully slow.
- Build quality: I got my phone with a creaky body... I hate that!
- Battery life: it doesn't even last me an entire day of solid use.
- Compatibility (or whatever you wanna call it): I can't open pdf, doc, xls, ppt files without buying and installing at least 2 third-party apps. That's standard on the iPhone.
- Positioning the cursor: maybe I've overlooked something but you don't get the magnifying glass that you have on the iPhone to move the cursor around, which means you just gotta tap and tap and tap until you get it right (hit and miss).
- Screen: looks fine but it's not as sensitive as the iPhone's. When typing fast it regularly misses a key altogether. Especially around the bottom edge that happens quite a bit. The SPACE BAR is on the bottom edge... Itendtousethespacebarquiteoften :(
- Camera: takes a week to start and two days to take a picture.
- No headphone jack and the crappiest head-set on the planet is packaged with the phone... I'm not kidding, the damn thing is hideous, uncomfortable and audio quality is horrible.

SO... there you have it. Why not to buy the HTC Magic (or myTouch). On the other hand... I really like Apple products, but I hate their attitude. They're way too arrogant.

Reviews - all this shit's in Dutch!

Yamaha FZ6N, Kawasaki Z750, Honda CB600F and Suzuki GSR battle it out. NB! the 2007 models... Kawa comes out on top, Hornet 2nd

Yamaha FZ6, Honda CB600F and Suzuki GSR battle it out. NB! the 2006 models... GSR comes out on top

The Kawa, all by it's lonesome. Problem: it's not a beginner's bike.

Bikes...

I know, I know... I've had ONE lesson. But a boy can dream right? Just looking at POTENTIAL new toys. Haven't bought anything yet. Will take a few more lessons first :)

But, here's what I'm looking at. 600-750 cc bikes, mostly nakeds. They gotta look the part!

The Honda Hornet is the most solid and the most boring bike.
The GSR is the sportiest but also the newest and most expensive one.
The Ducati feels like the more expensive one to maintain and somehow looks a bit more dated (because the ones I look at are older cause of the price ranges).
Yamaha looks great and is not that expensive... but never seems to come out on top in the reviews.
The Kawa... looks great, has a bit more oomph (which is maybe not such a great idea for me) and is in my price range. My pick right now :)

Honda CB600F Hornet - Black
2004 - 20400 km
€ 4200

Suzuki GSR - Black
2007 - 8123 km
€ 5400

Yamaha FZ6 - Black
2005 - 14200 km
€ 4750

Kawasaki Z750 - Black
2004 - 16000 km
€ 4990

Ducati 620 Monster - Black
2002 - 11000 km
€ 3950

That's pretty cool!

In the post below I tried out the GPS positioning on my HTC Magic (myTouch for you Yanks) and it actually came up with the opposite street AND a view of our building...

I'm in the little window on the ground floor, just behind the flower shop (greenhouse). Ha ha, pretty cool!

The rest of the building is NOT part of my office ;) it's really only 2 rooms...

My Location

Testing 'Here I am' on my new Android HTC Magic...

I'm at the office ;)
